Castor oil packs are a gentle, natural way to support your body’s healing and well-being.
Castor oil, pressed from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, has been used for centuries for its medicinal and cosmetic benefits. While it’s well known for nourishing the skin and hair, applying castor oil packs to the body can also support your internal organs, digestion, immune system, circulation, and even reproductive health.
A castor oil pack involves placing a cloth soaked in castor oil onto a specific area of your body, such as the abdomen, lower back, liver area, or uterus. With the addition of heat, the oil absorbs more deeply, helping to boost circulation, support detoxification, and ease inflammation. Many people use castor oil packs to reduce pain, cramps, swelling, and digestive discomfort, while others find them helpful for hormone balance, fertility, and overall relaxation.

How to Use a Castor Oil Pack
- Gather your supplies
- Organic cold-pressed castor oil
- A soft piece of flannel or cotton cloth (large enough to cover the treatment area)
- Plastic wrap (to catch drips)
- A hot water bottle or wheat bag
- An old towel or sheet (castor oil can stain)
- Prepare the pack
- Fold the cloth to the right size for the area you’re treating.
- Pour enough castor oil onto the cloth so it’s saturated but not dripping.
- Apply the pack
- Place the oil-soaked cloth directly onto your skin over the chosen area (e.g., lower abdomen or over the liver, just below the right ribcage).
- Cover the cloth with plastic wrap or a protective layer.
- Place the heating pad or hot water bottle on top.
- Relax and let it work
- Lie down and rest for 30–60 minutes while the oil absorbs. Some people even leave it on overnight if comfortable.
- Use this time to read, meditate, or simply rest.
- Aftercare
- Remove the pack and clean your skin with a little warm water and mild soap or a mix of water and baking soda.
- Store the cloth in a sealed glass container in the fridge to reuse (it can be used many times, just add more oil as needed).
Tips for Best Results
- Use castor oil packs 3–4 times a week for ongoing benefits, or daily during times of acute discomfort.
- Always protect your bedding and clothes, as castor oil stains permanently.
- Avoid use during pregnancy unless guided by a qualified practitioner.
- Choose organic, cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil to avoid chemicals and ensure maximum therapeutic effect.
